Menhaj Huda is the director of the new Paramount Plus crime thriller HEIST 88, starring Two Time Emmy Winner and Exec Producer Courtney B. Vance and his wife, Angela Bassett. He’s best known for directing the British cult hit Kidulthood, which sold over 1 million copies domestically and won Menhaj the Douglas Hickox Award for Best Debut Director, his relocation to Los Angeles and continued to build upon that success. His first US film Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance, which won 3 Leo Awards in 2019, including Best TV Movie, and spawned two sequels. He's been a regular director on The Flash (CW/Warner Bros.), and his other USTV credits include Batwoman (CW/Warner Bros.), Queens (ABC), The Royals (E! Channel/Lionsgate TV), and Charmed (CW/CBS). Born in Bangladesh, he moved to London at a young age and was raised in a culturally diverse environment. This greatly influencing his artistic sensibilities. As a British director with South Asian roots, he has always been passionate about American film, television and music. In fact, music played a pivotal role in his unique journey as he began DJ-ing in his late teens which naturally drew him towards music videos and non scripted music shows. Working as an editor came naturally to him but the idea of directing only came about when Channel 4 picked up the music show he co-created, centered around the music he was playing as a DJ: house music. His plans to study film at NYU quickly dissipated as he was continuously hired on various Channel 4 shows for the next four years, as well as music videos and commercials. He had the best education by learning on the job, finding his voice, and honing his visual skills. By the time he made his first short film, Jump Boy (Film4), his unique style of incorporating music with dynamic camera moves was clear for everyone to see as his career transitioned to scripted films. He's traveled extensively with friends from across the globe from many cultures, influencing his worldview and storytelling. His work reflects our multicultural world, showcasing characters and settings recognizable to all audiences. Although his work is commercial and appeals to a broad audience, his goal is to entertain and educate. Huda is a Co-Executive Producer on the BAFTA winning series “Gangs Of London” (SKY/AMC), which he originated and consults on.
